Unit Construction
The Frame
The frame is the foundation of the unit, Scenic View's frames are designed and engineered
to be the strongest possible with 8" I-Beam standard and 10" I-Beam with a 10' double
beam for more rigidity on porch models. The frame has a metal sheeted sublayer before
the floor joists to seal the floor and prevent access by rodents and insects.
The Floor
On all of our models we use transverse floors for better floor rigidity and plumbing
access. Transverse floors create a basement below the floor studs to place the air
ducting and plumbing lines. The 2"x6" floor studs are placed 16" on center and the floor
is insulated between them with R11 insulation. 5/8" toungue and groove plywood floor
decking is then glued and stapled down to create the base floor. The floor is then
secured to the frame with strong carriage bolts.
Sidewalls
Sidewalls are built on a table jig in one piece; full 2"x4" studs on 16" centers
compose the framework to create a study and structurally sound wall. Residential
drywall is installed on the interior side, using special adhesive and fastening
techniques to prevent cracking and shifting during transportation. A layer of thin
lauan is used as a weatherproofing and for better insulation.
The Electrical System
All electrical wires pass through metal sleeves or behind special metal plates in
the sidewall, this ensures that no fastener can penetrate the wiring. All wiring
and electrical systems are tested three times during the construction of the unit,
these tests include short detection, continuity testing, and polarity testing with
a high voltage test administered last.
Exterior
After the wall is lifted, moved into place, and secured to the unit;
it is packed with R11 insulation and then is sheathed in an exterior layer of (7/16")
OSB, adding strength and working with the insulation to be have good hot and cold
air retention. Doors and windows are then installed, our units come standard with
low-E vinyl thermo pane windows and patio doors.
The siding that the customer chooses is then installed on the unit, using metal
fascia and soffit that match the windows and doors to complete the trim and color
cordination. We offer vinyl lap, shaker, cedar log, and cedar lap siding (cedar
log and cedar lap on our Rustic Retreat Cabins).
